Bertil Folliot is Professor in Computer Science at the University Paris VI, Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France, and head of the "Distributed Systems and Middleware" from the Master in Computer Science, Specialty Distributed Systems and Applications (succesor of the PhD program "Distributed Computing Systems").  He received a PhD in 1992 and an "Habilitation à diriger des recherches" in 1996.  From 1993 to 1998 he was "Maître de conférences" (eq. Associate Professor) at the University Paris VII, Denis Diderot, Paris, France.  He teach or have taught at all levels: algorithms, C/C++, object oriented programming, operating systems, UNIX, distributed systems...

Since 1995, B. Folliot is the leader of the "Realization of distributed systems" team in the "Distributed and cooperative systems" of the LIP6 lab, (University Paris VI,  CNRS). He is a member of REGAL a common INRIA/LIP6 project.  From 1997 to 2002 he was a Scientific Advisor of the "Distributed Object Systems" at INRIA. He has been an invited Researcher at the University of Toronto (Ontario, Canada) in 1994, and at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA) in 1998.

His research interests include distributed operating systems, load sharing, fault tolerance, (see the projects GatoStar, and distributed shared memories), modern network architectures (high speed, wide area, mobile see also the Territory Model) and particularly, a dynamically configurable execution plateform: the Virtual Virtual Machine.  These works has been publish in numerous publications in international and french conferences.

Bertil is co-reponsible of the french "Distributed Systems and Applications" research group inside the new CNRS Architecture, Networks&systems, Parallelisme.  He participated at the creation of the French chapter of the ACM-SIGOPS (special interest group on Operating Systems) for which he was elected Vice-President (1998-2000) and then President (2000-2002). The first conference has been held in Rennes in June 1999, the second conference has been held in Paris in April 2001 with ASTI, the third one in la Colle-sur-loup in October 2003  He is a member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and the IFIP WG10.3 (International Federation for Information Processing - Concurrent systems).

B. Folliot has been reviewers for journals (TSI, Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, Parallel Computing, IEEE Computer...), program committee member of national and international conferences (JR-PRC, RenPar, ICDCS, EuroPar...) and reviewers for international conferences (SOSP, OSDI, WDAG, FTCS...).

More than thirty DEA students (eq. Master's) and 14 PhD students survived (or are still surviving) Bertil supervision.  The ten doctors that have succeeded until now are Professor, "Maître de conférences" (eq. Associate Professor), Researcher in an international industry laboratory or Postdoc.  When not glued to his workstation, nor teaching, nor in a meeting,... Bertil is probably playing with his son and daughter.
